whats the max YOU would spend on a set of rims and tyres?
« on: June 16, 2007, 02:28:06 PM »
With large wires being unreliable...... i'm having to have a rethink for my future project and for the last few weeks i've been looking at alternatives. The ones i like are very expensive,so i was just wondering what is the max that everyone would be prepared to pay for a set of new rims and tyres? £1000?...... £2000....... £3000+

That's four of us now giving up on wires!!

Because I'm trying to run my Honda on a tight budget, I went for the cheapest set of wheels I could find, brand new...   which were £280 (without tyres)... but I'm unlikely to spend more than £1000 for wheels alone...  anything more and you're just asking for trouble really...  (from thieving scum!)

I'm too tight to spend big money on wheels so i'd go for the "buy second hand and get em polished" approach :)

Altho' I think nice wheels really set a car off ,and having had several sets of alloys over the yrs ,I'm afraid I just wouldnt spend a lot of money on wheels ,UNLESS they were on a pure showdays only car.I know that my steels arent too pretty and not very many people are impressed with them (heard the comments personally and on the 'net.) ,but they are easy to clean and Ive done the best I can, bearing in mind that Its a daily driver . . Seems to me from my observations ,that you must have wires to be a true lowrider ,but I think thats c**p.(but there again Im not a "dude " just an old fart,so what do I know?..........not much help to you Ant I know but just my 2p mate ........

Dunno. The last wires I bought stood me at £900 once tyres and striping were done. If you find something you want then go with it.

easier said than done when i'm looking at £2500 to £3000 for the fcukers....... just gotta justify spending that sort of money and to be honest i'm stuggling with the concept of spending that vast amount on rims/tyres...... but they will look sweet on the next project!!

I'm sticking with my standard volvo wheels and hubcaps for now, but may change them for the beauty rings and centre caps that used to be on the old Lo-Vol, I liked them, but they do need a polish :)

most ive spent was 600 for the beemer m-parallel wheels I had on the 5-er, but I had to replace the rubber to so I guess around a grand all in..  Current wheels are about 600 quid replica's as my original magnesium rims are suceptable to cracking and cost 2k a piece to replace, hence in the shed wrapped in a nice big wollen blanket

I like the look of wires, but agree they aren't really practical for the UK with our crap road surfaces and weather, but I guess if you want the wires look and can stretch to a second set of wheels/tyres purely for shows they are cool..

I kind of like the look of little alloys too; Im not a big fan of 20's/22's, and am in the process of finding some old school 14's for my mrs to be slammed polo :D

Ant im in same boat the ones that ive looked at r at image wheels they do billet ones works out 370 plus vat plus tyre plus fixing kit
but what i have been doing is looking at cheaper wheels and getting them personalised by doing my own paint colours on photoshop or giving bits of wheel a polished finish in parts with the normal silver ones
but everytime i look back at the billet ones i think there the ones
so still lookin
but the is one good thing about this at least i know im not the only one with prob if u get any good ideas drop me a line lol
