Bonjour, tout le monde. I thought I'd let you know about PC's most foolhardy roadtrip...
OK, here's the deal - two entrants of last year's Plymouth to Banjul rally ran in Trabants, one named Trixie, the other named Priscilla (it's pink, Queen of the Desert...geddit?).
Upon arrival to Banjul, all cars were auctioned off to support local charities. Trouble is, both cars failed to sell. This was mainly due to the fact that they had blown engines.
So, what we've done is ship two fresh lumps out to Banjul, get stabbed in the arm with some needles, renew our passports and book some flights.
We're off to return the two Trabbies to England, via Trabbifest in Germany.
The plan is:
- Leave the UK on Friday at a, frankly, revolting hour.
- Arrive in Banjul, hung-over from in-flight beverage excess.
- Fit the new engines.
- Drive through Banjul and into Senegal.
- Cross the perilous Mauritanian border, an environment described by a friend as 'the closest I've ever come to being shot and stabbed.' He lives nr Stratford, London...
- Drive for a couple of days through Western Sahara, avoiding minefields and bandits.
- Try desperately to avoid the war zone between WS/Morocco border and head to Marrakech to smoke those funny pipes and buy man dresses.
- Shoot over to Spain and head north, Germany bound.
- Meander through France, buying cheap fags and booze.
- Hit the Trabbi fest and drink the cheap booze.
- Nurse a hangover and head to Amsterdam ferry port.
- Go home, sleep, reflect, not have diarrhoea.
I'll be sending in pictures to
http://www.practicalclassics.co.uk as regularly as my mobile reception allows, it would be great if you could visit the website and leave some comments. Offensive ones welcomed

We're also aiming to help out a charity through this, so if you're feeling generous, donate as little or as much as you like. Anything is greatly appreciated.
http://www.justgiving.com/slightlycliveracingBut we're doing this ALONE. We're NOT part of a rally, there's NO support vehicles and if Trixie and/or Priscilla decide to fail us, we're fcuked!
Feature in the August issue of Practical Classics, out July 18

Thanks for reading, here's a pic of Priscilla:
