123's are a fine car but youve got to spend way more than 'banger' money to get a good solid honest one now. i say 80% are now in a condition not worth spending money on, its not just sills, rear inner wings, outer floors e.t.c that have taken the toll of our climate, most will need replacement of fuel, brake lines, various rubber bushes and perished driveshaft boots are a subject i dont want to talk about

mine was one owner, dry stored for many years, has full history, and cost me just over 2 grand as i didnt want to be welding and nursing a tired one. very tidy 190's can be bought for little money and rust protection was much better and service/ mechanical parts can be very cheap. but the suspension is a bit tricky to juice. id say go with a golf.......
