How hard is it?????
« on: April 03, 2007, 03:12:44 PM »
Hi,

Im a newbie, so im sorry if i ask anything dumb or something that has been asked before but here goes.

For the last few yrs i've been hooning around a 'sports' cars, my current daliy is a 55 RX8 230 and i really like it, i had big big plans for it but thats all gone and changed, i've been offered a job half way down the ruddy country.

Seen as the missus will be stayin up ere in the north west i'll be doin some serious mileage every week so at 15mpg the rex has to go!

i've decided to go for a big ol wafty diesel, but cant really decide more than that, i thought mayb a 2002 bmw 530d m sport, or a 2003 merc clk 270 cdi

either way a critial factor in this is which cars in this kinda genre can i slam to the floor on bags??

any one able to help me out??

cheers guys, great forum

Ben

Im newish to air ,but I reckon my '83 Merc drives smoother on air than springs .Its a 'daily' driver ,and I was looking for the least hassle in the beginning ,BUT, Ive already upgraded it once with bigger comps etc etc ,and I still wont be able to 3 wheel ! (yeah ,yeah ,I know ...............I didnt listen to the advice of other LORDZ members in the beginning!   Altho' it is a no hassle system ,I will be giving Juice a try If I do something else!

cheers for the input rod,

any other opinions??

lets say an 04 clk, on 20s, 21s or 22, and i want some fastish front back side2side seesaw and pancake action while maintainin enuff ride comfort for motorway driving, now i no the big rims will inhibit that but wat the hay, im too vain to go smaller ha.

will bags give enough speed and lift?? can rams give good ride quality???

Yes bags can be fast. Yes rams can give good ride quality. Air is easier to tuck away, and is lighter. Juice gives longer playtime til your batteries go flat.
At the end of the day you can remedy all the flaws with both set-ups, it just depends how much you want to spend.

If you want something that rides well and gives reasonable moves then I think both will be similar prices. Would you be installing it yourself?
You can run a split charge relay set up for juice batteries BUT then you will only be running a 12v system and it will be dog slow. You can also get items known as 'street chargers' but they will only trickle charge your system. Otherwise you would need to buy a decent charger (ca.£200) to charge at home. A good start off juice set up is 2 pumps and either 3 or 6 batteries set up to run 36v. The more batteries you have, the longer the playtime.
Options with air are either 12v compressors sat somewhere around the car, you need at least 2 really, and they NEED to be 100% duty cycle for reliability, other options are Engine Driven Compressor (EDC), if there's space in your engine bay to slave it off you engine, EDC's rock. The next step is Nitrogen or scuba, but if you rely on them only then they do run out.
You will need air tanks (reservoirs) to store the air in, but these can be situated anywhere aroud the car. If you don't have tanks then whenever the car needs to lift you are waiting for the compressors to fill them up...dog slow.

thanks for the great advice funbags.

Well i think im gonna take this juob, so i'll be drivin to leicester every week, but thats from yr two.

The first yr is out of the country, and seeing as i will only be in the country for 3 days of every fortnite i dont really need anything practical.
Anyone got any thing a bit mad for sale? range rovers, jags??
Something like the cat daddy project or that green xj6 thatwarrior motorsport sold last year would be quality!
