Ball Joints
« on: June 24, 2010, 12:39:12 PM »
Well after a long storage the vans coming back out.  Going to etempt to get this rear dropping again.
At the moment its at mates garage getting it ready for the MOT.  5 months before it was stored it hadto have new ball joints, due to one coming out as i was driving.  Had both replaced to make sure it didnt happen again. Well just looked and both r worn bad in 5 months of light use, Mate saying due to no shocks or springs, there taking all the inpact of potholes and so on. Ive now took the 18" wheels off and put back on the 15" as they have 65 profiles on, instead of 32 psi ile put 28 to give a bit of bounce.
Any1 got any ideas or options what else i could do, as i dont want to lose front wheel under van again, might not be so lucky next time it happens.

you've got accumulators on it ?

set/specified right they should give a comparable ride to coils.
In US they weld a cup ontop of the ball joint so it retains the ball if the housing gives up

got accumulators and lock off switch.  As for the pressure in them i wouldnt  know what they were as they were done by Derrie when he was running MAX.

As for the cup idea,  whats the right words to do search for on poss lay it low??
As the threads i keep finding r theses extensions they put on.

I tryed
how to stop ball joint popping out and pulling out
how to make a cup for ball joint.

Came up with loads.   Looked at first 10 pages it came up with, but nothing on what i want.

"ball joint keepers"

guess you could get some machines over here ? They fit sort of like the rubber gaiter but are welded to the joint body
