20" wire wheels?
« on: April 07, 2010, 06:43:31 PM »
Hey everyone, I'm After a set of 20" wires for my jag!

I've tried ringing bling rims today and sent them a few online enquiries but have heard nothing back??

Does anyone know a source for them in the UK?

It's annoying, wires seem well cheap in the US, but the shipping is ridiculous!

any help or info much appreciated!

ian

sorry to be the barer of bad news fella............ but stay away they are nothing but trouble, imho any wire wheel bigger than 15" is nightmare.

I've had 15's, 17's and 20's. The 15's were fantastic, 17's would not hold pressure, 20's wouldn't hold pressure and had loose spokes.

Most peeps on here have had the same issues with large wires

got to agree with Ant......................
if you must go 20's get Daytons and make sure you get a return warranty

Thanks guys, I've been saving awhile so I don't want my hard earned pennies to go down the drain...

But on the other hand I don't think any other style of wheel will cut it for me...

Any recommended UK suppliers of Daytons?

Cheers again :)

Dayton, dont know if they do Dealers ?

Looking around $800 a rim and they are HEAVY [more likely to put the cost per cwt of you shipment UP Tony.]

they dont have UK dealers. Bling rims may be able to get them
but dont pay that amount to anyone unless you get a good return guarantee................ or are prepared to just use them for show days.

cheers fatdaddy much appreciating your help!

I couldn't afford $800 a rim to be honest.

The car isn't a show car by any means, it's my only and daily ride. I don't do huge mileage though... 10 miles a day probably on average, but it's crying out for some nicer rims!

Anyone had any luck with blingrims recently..? I emailed them about some prices for rims on my old beemer and they were quick to respond then, but havn't heard anything lately when I've tried contacting them.

Would be less hassle than going through the states, but i've seen 20" wires (non-dayton) for around £350 a set.

thanks

well you've read the experiences of people here with "normal" 20's.................. not sure that bling is less hassle tbh ?
i would say if you cant afford to get a good set in the first place you cant afford a set that will let you down in UK conditions.....................

I spoke to Blingrims not to long ago, they are unwilling to sell any rims that give them problems! ie Fwd lace wires 17" and over which is probably what your after to fit under your arches without hassle?
They will supply them but wont warranty them against air leaks. I took my Fwd lace 17" wheels to a tyre place the other day to remove the tyres and they damaged the silicone sealent around the spoke nipples by jabbing tyre levers into it,They will do the same refitting and then they will leak!
Get 15's ;)

And another thing you may want to know, Your nice shiney cheap wires will rust quicker than a 1970 Datsun parked in a salt water fishtank! They dont put much nickle in the extremely thin layer of chrome they use in China.
If you keep your car outside and drive it daily find a good second hand set and powdercoat them or polish the chrome every 12 hours!
Hope that helps?

thanks, i am taking note of everyones advice, sadly :( , it seems to have the real deal would cost about 2k before shipping and tyres? and then it's still likely that a tyre place could fudge them?

Or get cheap ones somehow.. and just wait for them to go bad?

Theres no way I could really go down to 15's... 18's are a little lost in there to be honest.

I've periodicaly looked on ebay for a set, but it's a little futile as nothing ever really comes up.

I still won't be able to picture it sitting on anything else and be happy I don't think.

Im not saying dont buy them because you cant beat wires. Just be prepared for a bit a hassle and if your car is a daily that you keep outside prehaps a different set of wheels for rainy times of year.
The best things in life are always a hassle but its worth it! :D
