Hydraulic Rams MERC 123
« on: November 09, 2009, 06:10:44 PM »
I own Splitpins old Merc123 coupe. The o/s/f ram is leaking. I have removed it and got a hydraulics company we use through work to reseal it. They reckon its to scored to fix and needs replacing. I think they could be Rayvern rams. Anyway where is the best place to get a pair of new ones. I was looking at Showtime ones in Germany £145 a pair plus postage.
Are all lowrider rams the same diametre or will i need to get new steel doughnuts to match?
Any help would be great.
Its not quite the quick project i thought to get it back on the road! After buying it thinking i knew what was needed to fix it i drove it onto my trailer and realised the auto gearbox was f*#ked! Slipping badly. **;

I put Rayvern rams in the front of that car in 2003, so they are probably the same ones. If they are, they've done pretty well really... Can't remember if they were 4's or 6's though.

Yup, definitely some rams in there that would fit (CCE and/or pro hopper), but I think he has been efficiently selling bits on, so there may not be much left...

Might be worth pm'ing chops though...

The bent rams on the back of my Granny are (I was told) RayVern items - I didn't know about the lifetime gaurantee  :)  Can I just send them back for a replacement even though I bought them second hand?

Cheers,

HC.

I spoke to Rayvern today, His rams are only gauranteed for life against the seals going. No bent or scored rods! He said his rams were the dangleys and much better than any usa stuff, so good he exports mostly to the states.   Is this true?
Any way i will worry about the rams after the gearbox, rear subframe mounts, snapped exhaust, flat tyres and welding have been sorted!
I will post a picture of the rams when i get them back.
Thanks all for the advice.

Rams are down to preference. I personally found that CCE rams are most reliable (and I've given various makes much stick over the years).

What's up with the gearbox? I put a new (reconditioned) one in it in 03 or 04... It's an afternoons work to fit a new one though (and I guess all the bolts will come undone easy enough!) - just watch out for the fragile banjo connectors that go off to the oil cooler...

moves wise id have to say yank rams are better, but rayverns are less likely to leak and from what ive heard last longer (hence the gaurantee), my opinion is theyre built for durability and not performance, like iain says, depends what you want.

Sweet i may just get some Rayvern ones as its quick and easy!
As for the gearbox its like its got a real bad slipping clutch. Common problem i believe, I will chuck another one in when it stops raining!
