help , ive cooked it
« on: June 29, 2009, 10:25:47 PM »
im needing help on my low, (nissan300c) while hoping round tesco carpark this afternoon i think a solinoid got stuck , my rear right side/pump kept pumping , i pulled my in case of emergancy leaver and that stopped it , i pulled out of sight to try and unstick the solinoid, assuming this was the prob, when i turned it back on , it started pumping again, still stuck im guessing but when i turned it off using the kill switch i kept on pumpin filling the local village in smoke, without any tools on me , i dissaperard into the think white smoke, i managed to find a pair or wire cutter and cut the lead that goes into the pump, burning my self in the process. ive now got a very smelly low with no go.

my questions are wot happend any ideas, and why would my kill switch not work ??
thanks guys ,
ant2

at a guess some insulation got metled during the first "stick"  then when you tried again two wires fused together so isolating it again made no difference......... only a guess tho :(

a stuck sol is the best guess for the original prob. They tend to go when the batts start to drop [volts drop so current rises].
starting point now is to remove all damaged or suspect cable and wire

charge batteries out of car

then using a jump lead or made up cable try each motor and solenoid combination in turn to try and find what works and what doesnt.

sorry to hear about your probs ant, sticky sols can be scary. When i had the car the back right locked on me at bristol volksfest. Then everytime i turned the system on it kept pressurising the ram over and over again untill the needle went all the way around the gauge!!!. The hammer tecnique didn't work and i think in the end we rewired to a better sol to get home.

ant E.............. if i remember did i not have a siwtch and relay in the system that cut off the accs when the ignition was not on but automatically switched them on with ign ?
could be that  relay ?

will be easy to locate whiwwch relay tho as you will be able to feel it click.

see if you can find one pump string that still works then try swapping the sols from one at a time from the bad  pump to the other one till you find a duff sol................

right ive tryed using a differant solinoid, the pump still lifts but sounds really bad , and is only just moving, and smoking like a gud un. ive taken the pump out and striped it , the wires around the pump are all burn so think ive found the prob. brought too new bosh solinids wich will arive in the morning , and for now wot im doing it useing the remaining pump to the rear to power both rear rams. via a tee connector .
does anyone no were i can get this motor rebuilt, is it a stardard job or is this unheard off?

thanks for all of ur help ant2

I've had one rebuilt at a local auto-elctrical factors (the kind of guys that do alternator and starter repairs).
If your motor is made by saco (which is common) the bits come from Germany and it takes about a week.  :)

golden rules for the refit..........
make sure ALL earth point are 100% clean [thats motor mount points/sol mount point/battery earths/everything]
discard any/all damaged/suspect cables and wires
start with FULLY charged batteries that have been load tested
check that the main shutoff works with a volt meter at every battery fed point

if you are going to drive it with one pump to the back remember that it will roll on corners.............

if they are saco motors, it may be worth knowing that pro-hopper own saco.  and have done for a few years. apparently...according to pro-hopper.
