Brillant, thanks for that, cant wait to get stuck into this now.  Once I get the electrics working I want to get a few rust spots sorted then onto the interior  :)    We'll get this old bird back upto standard  :)

Just getting myself prepared for this and looking to buy the parts I need.  Based on your advice below i'm going to buy some relays. I just want to confirm that I should buy 24v relays?  As the batteries drain and drop below 24v will the relays still switch?

Also, what Amp rating should I go for?

Quote from: "fatdaddy"
Run the front and the back lift ["Pump" ] wires to trigger relay that in turn fires the row of solenoids for that pump. [24v normal on/off relay as you would use for spot lights etc]. This keeps the heavyish load to fire the row of sols out of the switch box but more important it saves having any current drop to the sols as they are effectivley wired direct to the 24V+ point of the batteries.

As you have some spare holes and some spare wires you can fit a standard on/off switch to shut down the box if you want. [use this to fire a relay that shuts off the main 24v+ feed to the box]

Hope that all makes sense.

go with 24v
you are right, the batts will drop BUT you wont carry on playing if they drop TOO far [will you   ] as that is the main cause of sticking sols and motor problems

:D   No I wont.

I suppose that could be quite a good early warning sign to charge the batteries

Right now i'm thinking connector blocks.  Obviously the 12 core wire enters the perspex box but then each core needs to be fed to various different places.  I'd like to do this as tidy as possible.  The install at present just uses those plastic connector blocks with anything upto 4 wires rammed into one side.

Is there anything on the market that would better suit this?

perhaps use bullet connectors to set it all up. if you're then sure that you've got it all right then you could remove connectors one at a time and solder/sleeve/heatshrink them for a smoother look.

small ring terminals daisy chained around the relevant switch terminals.

relay amps.. off the top of my head don't know. one that would run spots will be fine, its only triggering the solenoids around 20amps should be enough.
