you are right your sir............................

my advice would be dont touch it.

haaving said that the main probs with AIM [or any of its pseudonyms] is that you most often dont get what you asked for and the finish/quality is crap.
in this case you can see what is there , sooo for the right number of beans it may be OK

As far as quality of components go you really need to buy the best you can afford,

To be honest if you can only afford the cheep crap then wait or break out the credit card.

AAC do a UK friendly postage from Canada works out cheaper than buying in the UK.

As far as performance if you buy a basic system you will kick yourself as you will want faster/more moves.

Best get it all first you can always buy slow downs for a tenner or so.

Bags,
Slam/Universal Air/Firestone/Airlift Dominator.

Valves,
Asco's/GC extreme/SMC,

Comp's
Viair or AZ's but I have heard bad tails about Air Zenneth...

Make sure you get DOT rated tanks lines and fittings dont risk safety for the sake of a few quid..
Cheep gear risks....

tbh I wouldn't bother going to 1/2" unless you also go for two comps, 1/2" pipes and valves will flow a tank full in a hand full of "upy-downys" and the comp will shut down for a cool session in no time.
Guessing that you know your way around fabrication gear and knowing you have 8 cyls to drive things, add an engine driven comp [to either kit and but preferably the 1/2"] you'll have a good starting point.
You'll find a suitable York EDC s/h in UK once funbags  or air-one tell you where to look!
Slam bags are bullet proof but can give a bit harser ride at with low weight on them.
Easy Street/Air Lift are quality general purpose bags.

Just as a guide............Im running 2x comps and 2x 5 gall tanks,a combination of 3/8" and 1/2" lines, firestone single port bags. I run the system at 150psi or 200psi (switchable) depending on requirements. I think I get about 6 lifts(all 4 corners up) and six dumps (all down),gradually getting slower as the psi and storage level drops. The comps wont replace the air quick enuf to keep moving BUT if I switch in the scuba air(3000psi in bottle regulated out at 180 psi),I can flick switches for a hell of a lot longer .I know its a lot to get yer head around ,but might be of use in deciding what to go for .

Agreed with FD,
At least two comps (two 480's or 380's) but a york will humble electric comp's.
Should be able to get em off ebay.

Good links for yorkcomps.

Whatever you do you need to do alot of reading and searching of forums to make up your own mind what you want.

Ask as many questions as you need and people on here and other forums will be only to pleased to help (no matter how daft you think you questions is)

The question is only easy if you know the answer.

Cheers...
Thats helped alot :) i've been reading a lot of stuff on the web to get a proper feel for it,and theres still a hell of a lot of tech sections on the sites that i wanna check out..but,  i've got an understanding on the metalwork involved now, i just gotta nail the exact spec i'm gonna implement.
I've already decided i'm not gonna notch the trucks chassis, instead i'm gonna fab a new section from the cab back, and mount the rear to a 4 link and panhard.
The front end may also get a new section, with homebrewed tubular a-arms...Similar to the front of a westfield or lotus seven.. its what i use on a lot of rods, as i dont like drivin i-beam fronts, and the mg etc clips people use are just ugly.

Thanks again.

I'm off to do some more reading.....................
