To bleed, normally you leave the filler caps off the reservoirs over nights whilst the car is dumped.

[u:3hpv2ddb]Don't crack any seals. or undo [i:3hpv2ddb]anything[/i:3hpv2ddb] whilst the system is under pressure. ie raised[/u:3hpv2ddb]

to bleed the lines you lock the car up and gently undo the fitting on top of the cylinder you should see bubbles come out it is advisable to place a jack under the car so it wont drop all the way once the bubbles stop coming out of the fitting and you have plain oil then there is no more air in there ,dump the car and top up the reservoir to around 1" from the top of the tank ,with the rayvern pumps they will leak from the filler caps due to them using a breather cap ,just throw these in the bin and use regular filler caps this will stop them leaking

Aaah I see.

Ok just to confirm...

To top up the tanks, under the brass fittings that have the hose pipes on and fill them up (until fluid comes out)
And then bleed them as above.

It's starting to make sense.

The pumps I have, they seem quite big compared to other 'black magic' etc 4pump installs. Are they fairly decent, or are you better off with 4 smaller pumps?

yep you got it,

most pumps are about the same size they dont look like regular rayvern pumps as his had internal dumps especialy back when this car was built

remebering that its got the displacment system, i guess the tanks aren't quite big enough for full lift AND to fill the disp rams. to get round this the tanks are run "too full" but that means they blow mist on dumping , hence the breather pipes.

you could do it neater with ally oil catch tanks [engine ones] and better hose. Mount eh tanks above the pupm tanks with the hose going in the bottom. that way the oil can flow back into the pump tanks to keep them fully topped up...... system MUST still be breathable tho or you will blow the tanks off.

Another amature question:

What are these things?

There's 2 with adjusters on (the previous owner said you could adjust the speed the rams work at with these?). The one in the picture seems to be leaking a bit, I'm guessing from one of the fittings going in or out, so I'm not too worried. Just wanna know what it does ha.

Oh and also, on the pumps.. the left hand one has some extra things attatched to the top of it - what's that about?

The tap on the pump is a slow down and will slow the fluid transfer back to the reservoir so will slow the drop of the rams, so fully open the car will drop quickly and fully closed the car will not drop at all.

Now looking at the pics from 99 against the ones you posted it looks like the rayvern fluid dipersment thingy for the rear has been taken out so i'm guessing that the other is lock off for some accumulators that have been fitted for the rear suspension.... could be wrong tho.

Have you still got the small coilover looking things in the boot as in the 99 pics?

Also is that wood holding the batts in situ?

It's got the coil bits yeah but they are in the parcel shelf in a metal box.

Nah the batts are in a proper rack and strapped down nicely, the wood is a seperate boot floor frame.
To be hoenst I'd like to gut it all out and start again really! It's pretty ming.

is the "extra thing" the nit with a tee handle here?

it is s slowd down to control the drop rate.

that is a shut of valve with a slowd down attached.

if the hose with the slow down goes to a ram it will slow down the rate the ram lifts or drops [or both depending on what type of slow down it is].
if the hose goes to an end o the car it will adjust the lift speed of that end.

if you've got two i will guess they control the lift speed of front and rear, then the slow down on top of the one tank ccontrols the drop speed of the back [would normally drop fastest as its he heavier end]. that configuration should allow you to set the lift speed so that both ends lift together an the drop speed so they drop togethr.

What car is this ?

Is it Eddie's old 4 door Cedric that he made a 2 door ?  Ed's white Cedric was pinted blue metalflake, then bronze (poo brown ?) and has recently cropped up again on our forum with a new owner, Or is this his other one 330 ? that was a 4 door that he converted to a 2 door? I thought that was in hiding ?  :?

Intersting to see what ride this actually is  !!
