Newbie here..
« on: March 05, 2008, 11:05:13 PM »
...How doo!

Been watching on and off for a few weeks and seems like a cool place!!

Got the link from Volkszone where I'm a regular and where I bought a hydraulic system second hand and been led to believe its a Max hydraulics system.

SSsssoo, will be asking plenty of questions/opinions/advice wanted etc  for example, are there plumbing/wiring diagrams available somewhere? as I know next to cack all about it!!! All this over the course of time i.e. six month project from today.

Oh yeah, its going onto a 69 bug (with pre 67 panels) in battleship grey primer and ironically the system came off a 69 bug. All the bits are there, switches, hoses, rams etc, just needs fluid and plugging upto a battery to run...oh and fitting!

Heres a 'bug selecta' piccie and photoplopped a bit to wet your appetites of things to come.

Will start a blog when I can be arsed about the build for your entertainment/amusement/sarci comments/whatever!

Speak soon.

....right....piccies, as taken by the chap I bought them from (all the way in Northern Ireland btw)...

Its all in a big plastic box (small shipping container) and only just got it yesterday, so first chance I can look at it proper is this weekend.

As with regards to current piccies, maybe after the weekend as the bug is under a shed load of crap and got to dig it out ready for this years fun and games, but heres one from over a year ago.....just fitted a new (to the bug) engine and all structural welding completed!!! Happy days!

So, as mentioned, will take a few more piccies of the system (and bug) and any advice as to its origins appreciated.

You tell me!?!? I can run 2 batterys no problem for space, but after that, starts getting a bit cramped.

that is going back  :)
must be one the first I ever sold. Its a Fenner pump unit. 24v is about all you want on a bug with it.
the rods on those cylinders seal on o rings in the rod end glands. Rods MUST be clean and smooth.

Yep, the rods are clean and smooth. 24volt....so, my first question, how and what?
Presumeing that I get another 12 volt battery (same as one as the bugs) and connect them in parrallel?

Again, you guys tell me or point me in the direction of a diagram please!

Any help appreciated. Im itching to get a good look at it!

2 in series.
really you want 2 lorry size batts [643's] and keep them seperate from the bug battery.

Blimey, just had a look at a 643 battery and they're huge!! as seen on eBay 'Measures 345 mm long X175X204'.

Will my alternator be able to cope with these aswell as the bug battery? I gather a split charger will be needed??

Cheers Mr daddy

nearly all batts used for powering hydros on cars are separate from the vehicle battery AND charging system.... you simply charge them up separately using a 12v,24v,36v etc charger.

So, what do I need in the way of a separate charger exactly? Another alternator? Put the batt on charge when I get home?  Remember, I have NO knowledge of this whatsoever!! HELP!!!!!

charge at home.
an alternator will take  ages to top up the size of batts we need for hydros.
two 643's will last you a good days playing. you just have to learn to time things.
dont even waste time trying to find a way round seperate charging from the mains, nothing will give you the top up power you need.
as a club we try to make sure there is some charge source at shows.

hence the coke machine outside the santapod shop being called "charge point"   :D

[oh look some one ha unplugged it and plugged something else in   ]
