I have had a look at mercmans prices and he's charging 450 for a used un. So i will have a go at changing everything else that will possibly be doing it. Thanks for chris' call, which has kinda put my mind at ease that there's a chance it won't be the module. But if it is - then it'll be cheaper to get a 500 transplant.

Yeah that's exactly what happened when i called mercman re: prices.

Rang GSF and ECP they both wanted like 70-80 for the wrong relay (mine is ten pin theirs were 9 pin) + vat. A used one was working out at £40 and for all i know it could be as borked as mine, and they were also the wrong ones.

Rang merc today and they said £35 for the exact same part number, and it'll be there tomorrow morning. So hopefully that'll fix it, as it has a date to pick up a nitro bottle and then a wash and off to the ACE.

 8)

Fingers crossed.

all i can describe that relay as is a black cigarette packet size box with the words MAS and a number or just a number on top. always tend to burn out with age or if the fuel pumps are a bit moody and drawing too much current. you can take the casing off and resolder the burnt contact.

well picked up a new relay from benz this morning - and it's still not solved the problem, just as before it runs for 10mins whilst warming up, gets to 80 on the temp scale, sits for a couple of minutes idling then dies, no coughing no spluttering just dies.

I revved it round to high rpm a couple of times when it warmed up, did it perfect and sat back at idle perfect. So i don't think it's the fuel pumps. I'm totally fugging stumped.

is deffo the right relay? should start 001 545 or 003 545 . i was quoted £85 'staff price' a while back..... both my 300ce's did this, ran until warm then just died at any speed, then restarted after a few mins. the burnt contact in the relay expands when hot and suddenly breaks the power to the fuel pumps, wierd but common on larger engine mercs. dunno what else would cause it off top of my head unless yes maybe the ignition pack.....sorry about your problems dude.

Yeah the part i replaced is part number 003 545 18 05.

Anyhoo i'm gonna take it down to the local retro friendly mechanics at shanklin motors, and see if they can have a fiddle, they can usually fix the grimmest situations. But not till monday so i have 5 days of reliable euro-blandness to endure till then.

should have a part number 003 545 25 05 or 003 545 01 05 i think but they may have just given you an old stock part. fuel pumps and the pump circuit still a good possibility. every car ive seen with fukked ign. pack either hasnt run at all or run like crap after barely starting. so theres hope it wont be expensive.....
