Oh hell - I can't believe how positive you are Cris. Hope it hasn't caused too much damage. You being you will bring it back better than before, and in record time! All the best...

I dumped the car on the drive and drove Roger to Edinburgh for the weekend. Ahh, nice.

Returned today, and took the Benz apart - looks like I really was lucky; it isn't nearly as bad as it looks.

With battery tray out. Obviously bottom carpet is gone, along with rear mirror, top and boot carpets. It does seem to have killed the built in charger though to the left of this pic. Smoke damage on pumps cleaned up easily enough. The side wall of the damaged battery held, so there is none of the expected battery acid damage.

But amazingly, all the melted bits wiped straight off the powder coated battery tray. I can now *really* recommend this chrome powder coating! Other two batteries survived with only a few battle scars.

Here are the only other knackered bits. One power lead, one hose (that caused the short), the mirror and one battery.

Image above shows how I've thrown another hydraulic hose on (it's far too long, but will do for now) and bridged the power across so that both pumps now run off one battery bank. Not ideal, but at least my daily is back on the road again until I get some disposable cash to make it pretty again!

Finally got round to rebuilding the install today...

Firstly, get all the expensive bits out

Assess the damage

New carpets. Bit of a redesign of hose and power configuration

And all back together. Can't afford a new battery or mirror panel at the moment, but at least it's presentable again.

However, the trophy melted warning triangle has to stay!  8-)

Had some fun at the weekend...

Power steering pump exploded on the first session and I had a weird blowout (blowup?)* when hitting a cone sideways at about 60, but otherwise an absolutely brilliant day. Can't wait for the next one!

*This photo is a matching pair of tyres!

Looks like the banding inside has broken - and to think I drove at over 100mpgh with the tyre like this!
